We use the term 'Adviser' here too.

Hi,
A lot of Universities tend to use Adviser rather than Officer, including
Bolton. Is that better? I guess it depends on the role and whether you
are co-ordinating notetakers or specialist tuition etc?

Yes, the term Officer reeks of class division (us and them) and should
be avoided at all costs. Stick with co-ordinator, it is the safest
option. In my experience very few of those involved in disability work
in HE can actually manage anything.

Subject: disability officer role
Hello Colleagues.
Here at York St John University we are currently trying to better define
what the role of a Disability 'Officer' is as opposed to a disability
'co-ordinator' or 'manager'.
Is anyone, from their own experience, able to define for me the
difference between the roles?
Alternatively, if you have the title of 'Officer' I would be most
grateful to receive a copy of your job description (off line if
preferred) if you are happy to forward to me.
I very much look forward to your responses.
Very best wishes
Wendy
