Sorry Roland and all other parents out there!...didn't mean to offend... (Can you tell I'm not one!) I meant I wanted to avoid the school having made an error in judgement which resulted in wrongful disclosure and violation of rights. I can explain a disclosure which has been done correctly and in most cases, the parent and child in question are reasonable enough to understand the situation. It would be very difficult to persuade people that we are a responsible authority if the first problem is having to account for errors!

I recommend this ACPO manual, with a request form at page 58 onwards
(which should be the same form that the school get to see when filled
in). Helping schools work out when the police are *requiring* data
[under some statute] rather than *requesting* [under DPA 29(3)] is
probably the most valuable thing you could do.
