I was being charitable about "haste".
I learnt this lesson many years ago when I stored a "pre-production" page on
a live site, and then found it in Google's index even though nothing linked
to it that I could see.
My error was trivial compared with this one. There are very few, if any,
uses that the public would be happy to be associated with, with Astroglide.

I think it has more to do with incompetence and naivety than haste.
Text file on the filesystem is inherently insecure anyway. Text file in the
same folder as your web pages is a schoolboy error.
That said, you are quite correct. There is a lot of it about.
