I would welcome some advice and suggestions about the way forward for a
partially sighted postgraduate applicant who has been offered a
conditional place which includes an English Language requirement IELTS
6.5 or TOEFL (C) 230. The applicant is finding it difficult to provide
a certificate to demonstrate his english language skills.
The student tells me that has been advised by IELTS (after a failed test
and considerable correspondence with them) that his method of taking the
test means they cannot accurately assess his abilities and grade his
performance. The student has always relied on a scribe and completed his
undergraduate studies abroad relying on recordings of lectures, his
memory and a scribe. He has never used assistive software or braille,
he is unable to access enlarged/magnified text for more than one
paragraph as his eyes tire very quickly.
As he does not have computer skills he does not think that he would be
able to successfully access the TOFL assessment.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcomed either directly or via
Dis-forum.
Thanks
Lynn
