I don't know what the official answer is, but as a visually impaired
student who uses it to access course material I can make the following
comments...
It picks up windows settings fairly well, so if like me you like to
use larger than average fonts and play with the colour settings it
will adopt these. However, when I used it there were lots of boxes on
the screen and my large size text didn't fit in them very well. In
the end I cut and paste the information from each box into word where
I could read it more easily. Most of the icons did not enlarge or
have a text label so I could not use them, but I managed without for
the most part.
I tried using my screenreader - ZoomText - and it worked ok, but I
believe this depends on who has set up the information you want to
access and how they've done it (I guess in the same way that the web
is fully accessible if only websites are designed correctly). I did
have a problem with pictures and graphs, but there may be a way of
adding an equivalent of 'alt text', but my university didn't use it if
so.
I hope this is of some help,
Emma
