You may find that the RNC at Hereford can assist with this problem with
the
talking tactile system for graphics delivery by sound and touch.
The EU project AHVIIT is dealing with Sport Massage [with VISIO,
Netherlands
... one of the partners in this project], as just one subject area in
development. Your current Sports module could be a natural follow from
this.
Have a look at www.rncb.ac.uk/t3 project site is www.ahviit.org

Subject: Tactile diagrams in lectures and DSA?
Hello.
Here at Worcester we have a blind student who is taking a sports module
which involves presentations in powerpoint including graphs and chemical
reaction diagrams.
Tutors are converting the powerpoint document into word so the student's
screen reader can access it and they will give some descriptions of the
diagrams and reactions.
But the student also needs the diagrams in a tactile format in addition
to
the textual description to get an adequate understanding of the
information.
I don't think tutors can be expected to produce hotspotted tactile
diagrams
with Braille labelling. Although DSA does not cover the cost of making
course materials accessible would transcribing these tactile elements be
an
exemption which should be DSA funded?
Thanks
