Hi Gill,
Usually the University wide student survey had in it a few questions
about disability 'issues' but these were questions picked by those on
high rather than things we wanted to know ourselves and so the results
of this were not useful and so we decided to do our own survey.
We carried out a telephone survey at the end of the last academic year -
contacting anyone who had indicated that they had a disability
regardless of whether they were known to the service or not. As it was a
telephone survey it meant that we had a very high response rate and I
would recommend it, for those students who were unable to answer
questions via telehpne due to their disability we either contacted them
by email or offeres a one-to-one. The survey was carried out by people
not directly involved in the students support and was then analysed by a
member of academic staff. The survey mostly covered our service but also
their experience of academic life generally, we have just had the
results analysed and sent back so we are digesting those.
I can send you the questionnaire we used if you want?
Best wishes

Subject: STUDENT FEEDBACK ON THE STUDENT DISABILITY SERVICE
_*Student Feedback on the Student Disability Service*_
We are looking at how to gather student feedback of the Student
Disability Service which includes Disability, Dyslexia and the Support
Worker Scheme at Oxford Brookes University.
We are thinking about the use of a questionnaire either by telephone,
email or post or some combination of these. One idea is that the
questionnaire will follow the students' pathway in to the Student
Disability Service i.e. how they learn about the service/access it and
use it /receive support from it ...
We need to think about whether we have one initial generic questionnaire
to cover students with disabilities and dyslexia or we need separate,
more specialist questionnaires or alternatively that we follow the
generic questionnaire with more specialist ones or use other research
methods, such as, in depth interviewing, focus groups etc.
I just wondered if people could tell me how they have gathered student
feedback to find out about different models. Also if anyone has a
questionnaire that they have used it would be really helpful to have a
look at it and if you could tell me how the questionnaire was delivered
(i.e. telephone/email/post) and the response rate that would also be
great.
Many thanks.
Best wishes,
