Must as in "that's what the law says", or "it would be the ethical thing
to do".

Imagine all those conversations where something is claimed to be
impossible "because of Data Protection" (and also imagine, hard I know,
that this is the real reason in each case). If you could wave an
authoritative "but they are dead" card, wouldn't that make it less
stressful and more efficient? Without that card, nothing changes and the
data of the living is still protected.
