Subject: [data-protection] Child Support Agency
Is there any guidance or does anyone have any advice about disclosing
Council Tax data to the Child Support Agency (whereabouts, bank/income
details). I would have thought it was a big NO WAY , but maybe I can be
corrected. Is there an exemption they can quote?

See http://www.angus.gov.uk/ac/documents/dataprotection.pdf
"Giving information about you to third parties
The Council will only give information about you to a third party:
. Where it has your explicit consent eg to assist financial institutions
regarding mortgages,
loans etc,
. Where it is required to do so by law eg to the Inland Revenue, the
Benefits Agency or the Child Support Agency
. To prevent or detect a criminal offence or in connection with legal
proceedings eg to assist a criminal or tax investigation"
I presume that the same applies in England and Wales.
The reverse is also allowed:
"Who can the CSA give information to?
The CSA treats the protection of personal information very seriously.
Addresses and phone numbers of a parent will not usually be disclosed by the
CSA to anyone else unless that parent agrees. But if a court makes an order
requiring an address to be disclosed, the CSA must comply with it.
The CSA may also give information (including addresses and phone numbers)
provided by, or about, parents to certain other organisations.
But this will only happen where the law allows it.
These other organisations include:
. other parts of the Department for Work and Pensions;
. local authorities (in connection with Housing Benefit or Council Tax
Benefit);
. Inland Revenue; and
. a court or tribunal in connection with proceedings before them in relation
to child maintenance.
Information can also be disclosed to help prevent or detect crime."
