Similarly, the data matching exercises which include all local authority
employees' payroll/pensions data, benefits applicants' data, rent payers' data,
licence-holders' data along with information on asylum seekers, market stall
holders and loads more, have never realised savings that cover the costs of the
scheme. Still, as many will tell you, better to catch the bu**ers than to
actually save tax payers any money.
From a data protection point of view, I wonder just how many people from the
above groups are aware of the fact their data are used in these exercises.
Principle One and the IC's guidance suggests they all should be, but . . .
