Disability Adviser - Student Services
Grade 8: £25433 - £26673

A vacancy exists for a suitably qualified person to join the Student
Services Team in delivering information and support to students at NEWI.
The post of Disability Adviser is an integral part of the Student Services
Team and will contribute to ensuring that the Institute meets its legal
requirements under Disability Legislation (e.g. SENDA) and Listed Centre
status.
The primary purpose of this post is to promote a quality support service
to students with disabilities. This will include providing information
and advice to prospective and current students; undertaking screening
tests for students with specific learning differences, liaising with
academic departments and external agencies; preparing and distributing
information sheets and publications, contributing to the development of
policy and procedures in relation to disability issues and promoting
disability awareness through staff training.
The Disability Adviser will also oversee the quality of tutorial support
provided by Learning Support Tutors and contribute to the monitoring of
service delivery.
The post is responsible to the Student Services Manager and will work
closely on a day-to-day basis with staff of Learning Support Services.
Applicants must be educated to degree level or equivalent with a relevant
postgraduate or professional qualification (e.g. Dip SpLD) and at least 3
years experience within HE or a learning support environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills are essential as
is the ability to work independently as well as in a team, and to
establish effective working relationships with colleagues in academic
schools and directorates.
