The Student Development Centre is a small central unit charged with
co-ordinating the University's pastoral provision to students. Specialist
provision in Counselling, Advice for Students with Disabilities, Student
Welfare issues and liaison with the Medical Service are all managed from the
unit.
A self-motivated and flexible person is required to assist the Disability
Co-ordinator in the provision and development of support services available
to students with disabilities. The responsibilities will include a mix of
co-ordinating support, developing policies and practices, and raising
awareness within the University on disability issues. You will have
particular responsibility for students with a specific learning difficulty
(dyslexia); screening, assistance with claims for funding for assessment and
support and co-ordinating University support for individual students.
Educated to GCSE level, with at least two years' recent relevant work
experience in a large organisation, you will have a working knowledge and
application of disability issues (within the HE sector) with particular
regard to current legislation, together with knowledge and understanding of
LEA processes for award of DSA.
