This is just to let members of DIS-FORUM, and any interested colleagues, know
that, as part of the Lancaster University Student Mental Health Project, we are
offering the following staff training session on a regional basis during the
coming months:
'TRAINING THE TRAINERS' (MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS)
* What is the aim of the training? It is a one day session designed to
enable participants to facilitate the training of staff in their own
institutions in basic mental health awareness. This 'training the trainers'
can be a cost and time efficient way to disseminate basic mental health
awareness training as widely as possible.
* Whom is the training for? Any member of staff who may be in a position
to deliver some basic mental health awareness training to others in their own
institution. It assumes that participants will have some general awareness of
mental health issues themselves, but feel that they may benefit from some ideas
and discussion as to how they might deliver initial training to others on the
basic issues.
* What about the costs? The training sessions are offered free of charge
including lunch and refreshments.
* Where and when? There will be a total of six training sessions held on
a regional basis between November 2001 and June 2002. Sessions are scheduled
to run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. People are welcome to attend the session at
whatever location is most convenient to them, although places will be limited
to a maximum of 50 per session. The dates and locations are planned as
follows:
23 November 2001: LEEDS (book by no later than 9 November)
24 January 2002: GLASGOW
20 February 2002: Midlands region (venue to be confirmed)
