I would like to invite three Disability Officers from the London
Region who would be interested in joining me along with the
other universities involved to take part in a seminar on 19th
October at the Business Design Centre in London, between
12.15 and 1.15 pm. All travel expenses and lunch will be paid
for.
University of Westminster is one of four universities (Bristol,
Central Lancashire, Manchester Metropolitan) working with the
RNID’s employment advisors on a project called Headstart.
The project aims to support deaf and hard of hearing students
through higher education, providing access to careers advice
and mentoring support as well as ensuring that they achieve their
full potential through accessible learning materials.
Headstart will be taking part in the RNID event, Breaking the
Sound Barrier, in London on 19th/20th October and is running a
one-hour seminar on Friday, 19th October to discuss the issues
surrounding the lack of provision for deaf and hard of hearing
people in higher education.
Project members from the universities involved will be taking
part in the discussion along with Disability Officers from three
other universities within their regions.
