I am always reluctant to throw "a spanner in the wheel" but
I have just had a student come to see me. He had contacted
his LEA about DSA and at their request sent in an Ed Psych
report. The response is that they, without any other
communication with the student and without requesting an
assessment, have decided that he should have MS Office and
a computer that is adequate to run it on and a tape
recorder costing £38.00. They have sent him the cheque to
purchase this. They have also indicated that the student
should if possible include the insurance costs on his
parents insurance. What crime has the student committed -
he has dyslexia. This particular LEA are very good when
awarding DSA for other disabilities.
The most galling aspect for me personally is that I
actually pay my Council Tax to this particular County
Council ..... and before anyone jumps to the wrong
conclusion, I do NOT live in Norfolk.
