Dear Fellows,
It seems to me that the majority of participants are trying to evade the new
requirements of DTA and the EU Directorate rather then learn the facts from
reliable sources.
1. Fingerprints are unique!
2. Police forensic systems try to speed up the match process (which is very
long if done ONLY graphically) so they "classify" to limit the size of the
"sample" i.e., number of FP to be matched - comparison of scene of the crime
"latent" partial fingerprint with the anonymous pile of identified person's
fingerprints - this is 1 to many search.
3. Once the small group is "assembled" it is feasible to perform a complete
graphic match ...
4. The 10 FP sets in the police are clearer and of high quality compared to
a small part of a FP single from forensic investigation.
5. In cases of misfortunes, accidents, violent crimes it is not possible to
identify the victim by what is left of his distorted facial image ... the
way persons are identified in a catastrophic event (terror plane crash lost
persons) is by FP. If the population's records are kept this is possible.
Additional features are then compared to verify ID (e.g., teeth panoramic
with medical records.
6. DNA is a Very exact and unique ID means. This is a scientific proven
method. Police use only a very small segment of the DNA chain. This is
obtained from saliva smear from the inner check. It is not considered
invasion of the privacy of the body in Law... (So far only courts related no
Act, in Israel). The rest of the chain where one can study illnesses,
deficiencies etc. ARE NOT unique as ID code. Not in Use. Police preserve the
sample DNA and classify it in a Computer for retrieval and "match" in
future. To make positive criminal evidence and expert must insert the two
DNA samples for review and confirm that they match. This is one of the
conclusive evidence in case of rape and violent crimes where some traces of
tissue of the suspect are left in the victim or vice versa.
7. Unlike FP the DNA is not practical for applications in computer where ID
verification is needed for 1 to 1 match - the live person viz. his record in
the database.

I have news for you - because the whole fingerprint is not compared (police
in different countries use a variety of numbers of "match points") the
recorded details of your fingerprints are not unique.
And get this - nor is your DNA.
