JISC Data Protection Code of Practice for Further and Higher Education
The 1998 Data Protection Act came into force on 1st March 2000. The higher and further education sectors were fully aware that this Act would have significant implications for their operations. In response to requests from the sector, JISC commissioned Andrew Charlesworth of the University of Hull to prepare guidelines for FE and HE.
JISC is pleased to present this Code of Practice as advice for the current year.
It is available as html or pdf from:
http://www.jisc.ac.uk/pub00/dp_code.html
It should be noted that the guidelines are not intended to be mandatory or prescriptive, but are a guide to best practice in this area. Nor, of course, can compliance with the guidelines guarantee compliance with the law.
We hope that these Guidelines will assist institutions in their compliance with the 1998 Data Protection Act.
