Hello all
An interesting case of document management...
Situation:
A housing association tenant has just died
- he was an immigrant granted immigration papers from the home office
- he has no other family in this country
- his possessions are currently in the keeping of the Housing
association
- the immigration papers are part of these possessions.
- the housing association will soon send the possessions to his family
in Afghanistan.
Problem:
The individual has no data protection rights ( not a living individual
). However, the housing officer does not wish to send valid immigration
papers to Afghanistan where they could be used and abused to gain
residency in this country.
Question:
Does anyone know of how best to resolve this? Are the papers property
of the individuals family, or will we be in trouble if in stewardship of
the possessions we remove the papers and return them to the Home Office.
No one there seems able to advise.
Yours with hope.
