Colleagures: I respond to Trevor and
Shan.
In a workshop on working with Master's
level students, I asked participants to
write down their personal definitions of
'critical analysis' a term that we use
widely between ourselves and,
significantly, in setting
tasks for students. There was a two way
split, with two conceptually different
definitions...interesting when it comes
to staff marking student essays where
the task is to 'critically analyse'.
In these days of busy-ness in HE, we do
not spend so much time cognitively
rubbing up against eachother. Maybe
this is one reason for the result of my
request. Or did we ever have one
concept for central terms such as
this - and many other terms. Being
more explicit will enable us to find
out - and to be clearer in what we are
trying to do.
