To be eligible for a grant, i.e. DSA one must be ordinarily resident in the
British Islands (which includes Isle of Man). The Isle of Man and the Channel
Islands are not part of the EU, which can cause some confusion. Not being in the
EU means that the HEI is not entitled to HEFCE support for these students and
consequently means that students from these Islands can be charged a higher rate
for fees. However, as residence of the British Islands they should meet the
residency requirements for DSA. The Isle of Man LEA should follow the same
regulations/guidelines for DSA as any other DfEE funded LEA.
