Dear Colleagues,
UCL's stage two bid for HEFCE centres on the production of an IT training
CD-ROM for students with disabilities. The CD-ROM would focus on MS Windows
95/98 and MS Office Professional/MS Office 2000 as these are considered the
core programs used by the majority of students and are invariably a part of
all assessments of need. Initially, the CD-ROM was for CLASS members (a
network of assessors consisting of, inter alia, QMW, University of
Westminster, University of Greenwich, London Guildhall University, etc.).
The CD-ROM would be issued gratis to all students of CLAN members in recipt
of IT training (paid from DSA).
HEFCE has suggested in its feedback that UCL may wish to make the CD-ROM a
national initiative. I would be grateful if you could confirm the following:
Do you have existing provision in this area e.g. an existing manual/training
CD-ROM?
Would you like to receive copies of the proposed CD-ROM (bearing in mind
that it would be free)?
If the answer to the second question is yes, how many copies (approximately)
do you envisage being required annually?
A web-site would be an obvious alternative but the files involved will be
enormous due to interactive nature of CD-ROM.
