There is a field on our enrollment form asking about
receipt of "Student Disability Allowance." This was put
there because it is a statistic that HESA have requested.
However, this is not and need not be used exclusively for
the HESA return. At this institution information is
supplied by myself about those students who are in receipt
of DSA in the current academic year. This is produced in
December in time for when HESA require the information. In
this way it is more accurate than the information that can
be obtained from the enrollment form. I understand that
HESA will require a revised return in June/July which
should give a more accurate picture.
It helps to have DSA applications dealt with by a particular individual (me in our
case)or Unit who is then in a position to give accurate feedback about numbers.
Given that institutional funding will be (possibly) affected by this stat' it is
important to keep on top of it.
