I wrote asking you for a contact with the British College of Optometrists
on behalf of a dyslexic optician struggling with professional
oral/practical exams.
Prof S Parrish, Examinations Adviser to The College of Optometrists
has contacted me for a useful discussion. He is not on dis-forum
so I am grateful to the person who gave him my message.
He said there was no special allowance as there was no reading
or writing in the ten oral/practical exams.
I pointed out that dyslexia is more than just literacy skills,
and that dyslexics often lacked confidence
and might get tongue-tied in a stressful exam situation
as this candidate does.
I was just asking about the special allowance situation
and the procedure for asking. I was not expecting him to intervene.
However Prof Parrish has asked to see the assessment report
and a letter about the exam situation from the candidate's dyslexic point
of view,
and he will see that the examination supervisor considers the situation
fairly.
Thank you.
Jean
