Hi Clare
The 4 universities of Manchester and Salford do not employ dyslexia
support tutors for individual students. We have a register of people
we recommend to students for their use. The student employs their own
support directly although the tutor often invoices the LEA. The
charge is approximately £20 per hour for specialist tutors (other
HEIs in the south tend to pay more, due to cost of living probably).
Students will have between one and two hours a week individual
tuition.
MMU do run a group session. This is usually for people who do not
get the DSA as it works out a lot cheaper per person and is more
cost effective. I am not sure what the tutor is paid but it is
definitely more than £20 in recognition of the preparation and work
for larger numbers of people.
Hope this is of some help. Access Summit did quite a wide survey of
HEIs about employing support personnel. Contact me if you want to
know more.
