MANAGEMENT VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Coordinator, Center on Disabilities, Students with Disabilities
Resources Unit.
THE UNIVERSITY:
California State University, Northridge, one of the largest of the 22
campuses of The California State University system, is located
twenty-five miles northwest of central Los Angeles in the San Fernando
Valley, a suburb with a multi-ethnic population of over one million
people. The University enrolls approximately 27,700 students (20,000
FTEs) of which one-half are ethnic minorities, served by over 1,500
faculty. Eight Colleges offer baccalaureate degrees in 50 disciplines,
master's degrees in 41 fields, and credentials in the field of
education.
THE POSITION OF COORDINATOR, CENTER ON DISABILITIES:
Under general supervision of the Associate Director of the Center on
Disabilities, the Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of
support services to students with disabilities, including Computer
Access Lab, academic support, transportation services, student
development, access to technology and assistive technology, special
admissions, disability management counseling, and advisement. Serves as
a resource to faculty, staff and administrators to provide information
and training about serving students with disabilities; and as liaison
between program staff and government and community agencies, campus
groups, faculty, staff and administrators. Supervises professional and
clerical staff; serves as Special Admissions Committee Chair; represents
the program on selected boards and committees; provides assistance for
special event programming; develops and implements innovative
programming designed to meet changes in student needs, technology and
university environment; and performs other duties as assign
ed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a
related field. Equivalent to three years of supervisory experience, of
which one year has been spent supervising a highly complex Student
Services work unit. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices
of effective supervision; general knowledge of the principles of
personnel management; effective interviewing techniques; and thorough
knowledge, or the ability to quickly acquire such knowledge, of the
policies, procedures and practices of the Students with Disabilities
Program. Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of others; to
follow personnel office procedures; to assign work and train employees;
to give clear, concise and complete instructions; to relate to and gain
the confidence and cooperation of subordinates and of university
administrators, faculty and other staff; to establish and maintain
cooperative working relationships with others; and to implement changes
in work procedures with minimal disruption and employ
ee dissatisfaction. Ability to use a personal computer and local area
network and to provide data collection for mandated reports; possession
of good organization, presentation skills, and interpersonal skills; and
ability to relate and communicate with support staff, executive
management, and external agency representatives. Demonstrated leadership
skills, particularly in the areas of serving postsecondary students with
learning disabilities and implementing assistive technology programs.
SALARY/BENEFITS:
Salary is dependent upon qualifications. The University offers excellent
