Dear Everyone,
I would be most grateful if you could assist me with any
ideas/experiences relating to the following:
I am currently researching the curriculum experiences of disabled
students (including students with specific learning difficulties) at
the University of Teesside. At this stage in the research I am
particularly interested in the issue of (alternative?)
examination/coursework provision for disabled students. Does anyone
have any specific guidelines or thoughts that might be of interest to
me? For example (and some of the following questions are based on
experiences of what people have said):
- Do you have any specific advice/experiences of exam/coursework
provision for students with (a) particular impairment(s)?
- Is it fair to offer disabled students alternative
forms of assessment? (e.g. an essay instead of an exam)?
- If alternative forms of assessment are valid, then should not they
be available to all students?
- What are your views (personal and/ or institutional) on providing
extra time in exams, an amanuensis, etc?
Sorry if this message is rather long; I would be pleased to have your
views on some of the above or any other ideas you may have.
Many thanks for your time.
Stefan.
