Yes and Yes to both questions.
One answer to it is to point out that many of these academics
actually, as someone else has already mentioned, are authors of texts
which are used as core to the course - so most of the material is
already in print already.
Another response is that if there were a student in the class who
could write notes in shorthand and transcribe them, they would have
the work verbatim anyway - so what's the difference?
What most students require are notes - bullet points, aides memoires
etc. not the full lecture word for word, so they can concentrate on
listening and use the notes as a reminder. Where is the problem with
that? The age of dinosaurs is not yet past! Good luck!
