One other point, some lecturers believe in the distribution of notes and
others don't.
The main pros and cons seem to be:
YES because students have a base, bullet-pointed structure for the
course which can then be enhanced during lectures. It is not possible to
write and inwardly digest at the same time.
NO because students will simply take copies of the notes for their mates
and not bother to come to lectures - and won't listen when they do.
I am in favour of the YES vote because:
I cannot write and listen at the same time. I gain more from lectures if
I have a base. When I am lecturing (another disguise) I always provide
notes with nice big type and spaces for additional remarks.
Others in the class may well be dyslexic, visually impaired, deaf, etc
and unwilling to say so.
Students who do will always achieve higher marks than students who don't
(attend lectures and make additional notes)
Advance notes allow students to think ahead and participate in lectures
and tutorials.
