Just a couple of suggestions:
1. The 1991 did NOT collect info on disability but rather asked about
Long-term Illness. Having worked as a sociologist before this job I must
point out that this category has many pitfalls and should NOT be equated
with disability. Ibelieve the 2001 Census may have Disability as a
category. I would suggest that you look at the OPCS Prevalance of
Disability amongst Adults and the PCS Prevalance of Disability amongst
Children which was produced in 1988. It can only be used as a starting
point but as I found it is the only real source of national information
currently available.
2. You should also try contacting the Disability Research Unit at Leeds
University. They are up-to-date with sources of information and they also
run the Disability-Research email list. They can be found on the internet at
http://www.leeds.ac/dru
3. The jouranl Disability and society often have articles on disability in
other countries which contain disability statistics.
I hope this of help
