I have finally managed to set up a new list called deaflink. I have
spoken to some of you about this before and it has taken me a year to
get round to it.
My original request to do this was turned down by Mailbase's list
management group, as I said I wanted it to be for students to get in
touch with each other and to use it as a way to overcome isolation. I
also hoped it would be a way for support staff to tap into student
concerns and to learn what forms of support do and don't work. The
former was regarded as not what the lists are maintained for, but the
latter was. We have six months to make it work, after which its
traffic will be reviewed.
Anyone who is particularly interested in deaf issues or who knows
deaf students who might like to join- and have the means- please put
them in touch.
You join in the usual way by sending the one-liner
join deaflink firstname secondname
to
[log in to unmask]
who knows, in a year or two it might be the best reason to give a
deaf undergrad access to e-mail.
