At the University of North London the Independent Learning Unit is situated on
the ground floor of the library. The ground floor, with the loans counter,
is not a designated quiet study area so noise levels from the braille
printer and other specialist software are tolerated. However we do have an
acoustic hood for the braille embosser which considerably reduces the noise
generated from printing. When brailling large documents which may take
several hours I suggest printing out of library hours or during quiet times
such as Inter Semester week and term holidays.
Headphones are used with all equipment with speech output. A selection of
headphones are available in the Unit and this arrangement works well.
Good luck
