We have been discussing whether we should be suggesting this (and a remote
control package) in those cases where we have some influence on what is
recommended. Partly because of the value of the web, internet, email etc
for research and communications (particularly for dyslexic people); and
partly to enable us to do complex support by remote control, rather than
having to talk naive users through complex procedures and diagnostics,
which can be pretty painful at both ends.
A couple of the DSA systems that we have supplied lately have had modems
included (but not remote control software). I am not sure of the specific
reasons why. So some LEAs must be allowing it where the assessment
specifies.
