I understand Philips have a system that takes tapes and transcribes
them, but it is designed to work with tapes recorded on a DAT
machine by someone speaking directly into a microphone.
I'd be interested to hear the results of any experiments with the
newer voice systems, but I'm very doubtful of success. I guess you'd
need to get the lecturer to record the 'setup' words standing in the
position he'd normally speak from and go from there. One useful
feature of the newer systems is that they will inform you right near
the beginning of the process if they cannot make sense of the sounds
you are making.
