I do not subscribe to this list, but the above was forwarded to me.
The answer is yes and no.
I have been part of a European-funded project tackling exactly this
problem. Basically, we developed a multi-modal workstation for presentation
and maniuplation of amthematics in non-visual representations. You can find
out more about what we did at http://www.cs.york.ac.uk/maths/
That project is now finished, but the workstation should become a
commercial within the next year. The company Papenmeier is leading the
commercialization, and you could contact them for details.
