Hi Everyone,
There are some of us here in Australiawho log into the dis-forum
listserver and have picked up some excellent suggestions. Here is
my opportunity to assist with this question of travelling with
laptops.
>From Australia, university staff and business people travel
regularly overseas taking their laptops; the airlines will allow
people to use them on the planes once they reach altitude. There
are no restrictions but do ensure you take the laptop as cabin
baggage.
One scam that has been quite common at some American and
European airports is where there are two crooks working in
tandem to steal laptops coming through security systems. What
happens is that the victim will put their laptop through the
security system, and be held up by one of the gang going through
the metal detector gate in front of the victim. The metal detector
will of course sound because it has detected some metal keys or
something. In the meantime the other thief has collected the
laptop off the security belt and high tailed it.
Hope this helps.
