The HEFCE announces the appointment of:
EQUIP: Enhancing Quality in Provision
Disability Co-ordination and Development Team
The Council has appointed the eQuip team to co-ordinate and develop
disability provision in HE. The team is funded under the current special
initiative to encourage high quality provision for disabled students, which
runs until July 1999. The team forms part of the Council's commitment to
widening participation and is in line with Dearing's recommendation to
enhance learning support for disabled students.
The team's role is to:
? Support projects funded by the initiative
? Gather information about good practice in all institutions
? Develop collaboration between projects, other HE institutions, specialist
organisations and other relevant HE initiatives to share resources and
expertise
? Encourage all HE institutions to improve their disability support
? Help institutions to develop and disseminate their disability statements
Initially the eQuip team will visit special initiative projects and foster
links between institutions (with or without special initiative funding)
working in similar areas. In early 1998 the team aims to broaden the scope
of its work: it plans to support all institutions in improving services for
disabled students, and make information about disability work in the sector
more accessible.
The team will produce an occasional bulletin, facilitate and run workshops
on the development of services and be a source of advice and support for all
HE institutions.
For more information please call the team's administrative office on 01203
