I know there's been some recent discussion about alphasmarts, etc. However
the display on these is quite small (unless the new one is any better). I
remember ages ago seeing a portable 'computer' with a really good display,
bright green or orange led style but gas filled, I think. I suppose this is
no longer produced but does anyone have any suggestions of a reasonably
cheap portable device with a good clear (pref. customisable) display for a
visually impaired student who does not really need speech output?
I'd like to be able to recommend - for a particular individual - a good
machine to use at home and a decent CCTV, so a laptop as well would take the
cost too high, unnecessary extra burden of weight, techno-overload etc, plus
I am currently working to the formula
laptop + student = disaster (squared)
based on recent experience and would rather not recommend a laptop if there
is any way around it. This student does not need a portable PC but could use
a portable note taker for eg Library work, some seminars, lectures etc.
Any ideas?
