I suppose that the testing bit would not qualify for funding as in a sense
this is establishing a disability in the same way as ed psych assessments
for students with dyslexia cannot be paid for under the DFEE guidance.
However, the guidance would seem to suggest that following the
establishment of the need for glasses with tinted lenses an LEA should meet
the cost if it can be shown that the need for such is as a direct
consequence of the student being a student and that they would not
otherwise be needed.
However, my only experience of trying for funding for this type of
"equipment" was unsuccessful as the LEA concerned made the argument that
the glasses were needed in any case even if the individual were not a
student. Despite pleas that this was highly unlikely as the individual
involved was a bricklayer before taking up his place.
