* When I send DOC files (or JPEGs, ZIPs, GIFs, etc) as file
* attachments, I don't need to convert the file, but just
* attach it to my message using Pegasus Mail.
*
* Which mailer are you using?

There are two issues here:
1. As Sarah Jayne says, a mailer like Pegasus makes this very simple.
If your mailer does not support attachments you will need to use a
UUencoder, which can be downloaded from somewhere like HENSA.
HOWEVER,
2. Generally, it is accepted practice NOT TO SEND BINARY files to a
mailing list. People who don't have mailers which deal with
attachments often get very upset! The best thing to do is to save the
Word file as a text file and send as a conventional email.
Note that it is possible for me to put the Word file up on the
mailbase web site for those who want it. However, in this case you
will still need to find out how to mail a binary file in order to
send it to me!
