Dear Barbarah,
There may have been an occasional paper on schools from the DOE, or there is
Selwyn Goldsmith's Book, or my own book, or most borough's will also publish
their own guides (ring the local access officer or building control).
If you are looking for the answer - then the clear open width - ie what
there is actually left when you try to get through the door when fully opem
should be a MINIMUM of 810mm - wheelcahir users can get through less, but in
a library they are normally carrying things and there are other people
moving through. Preferably double swing. If a pair of doors are being
considered there is always a temptation to equal the leafs - ie two 600mm
leafs equalling a 1200mm corridor - it is much preferred to have a leaf and
a half - ie 900mm and 300mm. People will allways talk about a 1000mm door
opening - this actually means a structural opening of 1010mm and a clear
open width of approximately 900mm.
With glass doors the common sense begins to break down a bit - the wider
they are the heaviwe they get, so the optimum is the 810mm opening with a
300mm high kickplate. Ideally though these should be aautomated as glass and
crashing wheelcahirs to open them are never ideal :)
If you have an actual requirement, or more detail on what you waht - or
where to get the references above then send a message to me direct and I
will answer more precisely.
Regards
James
