Mary
Before my support service came fully into being, students used to access
support from the Derbyshire Service for Hearing Impaired students who
could provide radio aids for hire/loan. Also a lot of interpreting
agencies also have loop systems which it is possible to hire on a
temporary basis. You mention that it is an infra red loop system which
is a bit confusing as infra red systems are rarely loops, however,
contact Nick Pearson at EQ Equipment for Equality for advice, it may be
possible that he can negotiate loaning the equipment, of course, it may
be in the students interest to discover that loaning / hiring is an
untenable arrangement and therefore the equipment will need to be
bought. As a deaf person myself who uses such equipment and having
worked in that field I would say a proper radio aid system would be my
choice, except where working with groups where I should want something
like a loop, please do get back to me if this is as clear as mud for
clarification. You can contact Nick on : 01733 893006 voice or minicom
or fax 01733 893018 I'm sure you will find him helpful
Hope that's useful
