F.T.A.O. all university Careers Advisers and Disability Officers,
The CanDo Web site has now placed on-line the first 54 'disability
statements' submitted by universities around the UK, with more coming
on-line daily.
The new Disability Discrimination Act now requires universities to
publish, annually, statements which outline their provision for their
students with disabilities (for example, in terms of admissions,
policies, and who to contact at each university). The location of all
of the published statements in one place should make it easier for
prospective disabled students and their guidance communities to choose
an appropriate university.
Please check out your own university's statement on the site
(http://cando.lancs.ac.uk/). If you have already sent in your statement
but it doesn't appear, then rest assured that it is in the queue. You
will be notified by post or e-mail once it is on-line.
Special thanks are extended to the HE funding councils of England,
Scotland and Wales as well as SKILL (the national bureau for students
with disabilities), for supporting and assisting this process.
