When people complain of this sort of recognition with VoiceType (or any
other modern product) it is almost certain that the microphone is not
optimally set up. However, it is possible that, if you are getting a very
low rate of recognition with Dragon (because, say, you are unable to speak
consistently), you would get even worse recognition with VT. VT uses the
following word as well as the preceding word to help recognise the current
one. So if the following word is wrong, it may encourage the current word
to go wrong too. But if your father is getting the same results it must be
poor microphone set up.
