We have carried out over 100 dyslexia assessments this year and have
only recommended voice recog to 3 bods. One of these was determined
to have SimplySpeaking, although we didn't consider it to be the most
appropriate thing for him. He rang within a couple of days and said he
was having problems formatting his text [on transfer from VoicePad
into Word] and particularly with editing [which we had explained probably
would be a problem as he had great difficulty organising himself].
We have had excellent results with touch typing programmes: most of
our spld bods have been delighted at how well they have done when
they're not constantly looking at the keys. We tend to think that
anyone capable of using their fingers should do so...
TextHelp can be extremely helpful to some - confusing and completely and
utterly useless for others. What a helpful comment - sorry!
