Lin Berwick who is a cerebral-palsied, blind, wheelchair user, and her
husband, have raised money to build and equip a holiday cottage for
seriously disabled people and their carers.
Berwick Cottage is at East Harling in Norfolk.
Lin has endeavoured to provide the best possible facilities.
The accommodation provides for two people with disabilities and upstairs, up
to four carers or family (one double bedroom, one twin bedroom).
Wheelchair access at ground level - patio doors open to huge bedroom and
ensuite bathroom. Carter track hoist runs across entire bedroom bathroom
area. Two Scan 700 beds with Apollo pressure care mattresses. Electrically
operated reclining armchairs which bring people to a standing position.
Beaumonde wash basin on a pressalit adjustable assembly. Geberit toilet
that 'washes and dries'. Parker sovereign bath with built in seat and
electrically operated hoist to place person gently and safely in the water.
Bourne wheelchair shower with adjustable height shower chair. Neatdek
shower grille (instead of shower tray). Mobile manual hoist. Kitchen
diswasher. Halogen hob. Electric oven. Talking microwave. Garden
sensitively designed for wheelchair access. Raised flower veds. Plants
selected for fragrance and texture. First floor accommodation for carers
wtih two spacious bedrooms and bathroom. Call system between ground and
upper floors. Induction loops for the hard of hearing. TV. Video. Music
Centre.
Berwick Cottage will be opened on Saturday July 5 1997 at noon by Sue
MacGregor, one of the Trusts Patrons..
The weekly cost of renting Berwick Cottage varies between £200 and £500
according to the season.
There is an initial fee of £50 (non-returnable) to secure a booking.
