Two ESRC CASE Studentships in the area of visual impairment
Applications are invited for two ESRC CASE Studentships awarded jointly to
the Department of Psychology at the University of Hertfordshire; one with
MA Systems and Control Ltd. of Southampton and the other with the Royal
National Institute for the Blind (RNIB). The studentships are for full
time research leading to a PhD in Psychology, to be jointly supervised by
Dr. Helen Petrie of the Department of Psychology and Dr. Dennis Majoe of MA
Systems and Control for the first studentship and Mrs. Wendy Davies of the
RNIB for the second studentship. The awards will operate under the ESRC's
standard research award conditions.
The first studentship with MA Systems and Control will investigate the use
of multimedia technology (particularly auditory and tactile components) to
give people with visual impairments access to art for both leisure or
educational purposes. The second studentship with the RNIB will
investigate how to coordinate auditory and tactile media in educational
materials for visually impaired students.
Applicants should have or be likely to obtain a good upper second or first
class degree in psychology, cognitive science, ergononics, art and design
