Peter,
My advice initially would be get yourself a good social worker
I stress the 'good' and or contact the British Council of Disabled People
telephone 0171 587 1663. I would challenge the DSS on their decision,
but what might help your cause is if you thought less in terms of medical
labels - spondylitis, iritis etc and began to think in terms of things
which are difficult for you because of the environment you are operating in
so if it is difficult to breathe on exertion- it is difficult to climb
stairs, if you can't see the labels on your medication - you require
someone to read them to you. All this you may have done and I apologise
if this is not news to you, you don't mention any attendance at Higher
Education or I would advise visiting the Disability Adviser or similar
there for help. Refer yourself to Social Services (or get your doctor to)
stop blaming your body and the very best of luck !
