Interesting question, to which I have not found a satisfactory reply. The GTC
guidleines in Scotland are quite specific about many disabilities, but not
dyslexia. I am concerned that applicants with dyslexia should not become
closet dyslexics, and would like to see the school of education at the Univ.
of Strathclyde tackle the problems head on, by working with student teachers
with dyslexia on how to get round classroom difficulties which result from
their dyslexia. Remains to be seen what will happen. Our National
Co-ordinator for Scottish HE advisers in the Sp. Needs area organises meetings
occasionally for those of us involved with teacher training establishments.
This is an issue which will come up again. Would be interested to hear of
developments elsewhere.
