I've just analysed the results of a questionnaire sent out to our network
of Disability Liaison Officers (someone from each College and department
who's volunteered to be the contact on disability issues).
Basically, people wanted no more than 3 hour long sessions, preferably
outside term, no more often than twice a year. The subjects which people
were most interested in were support for blind/partially sighted,
deaf/hard of hearing and dyslexic students. I hope this helps!
We have not produced a staff handbook, but we are producing "Guidance
Notes" on specific issues such as chronic illness, dyslexia, etc., and
these have generally been well received. They explain how the condition
can affect a student's work, what can be done to support the student, and
list contact names and addresses (of local and national organisations).
