Dear Loretto and colleagues,
At Loughborough the situation is much as Mary Foley
described it for Nottingham, with the Counselling Service funded by the
University (and contracting out some services to the local FE College). The
Medical Centre is independent, although I believe to some extent subsidised
by the University. (Counselling Service also counsels staff) I would share
the general disquiet if the Counselling service were to disappear and be
replaced by a Health Service-based unit, which would be a very different
"beast" and would not meet the needs which the present Counselling Service
meets.
However, both these existing services work very closely together and with
the rest of our Student Services Network.
Yours, Ron Hinton
